East Gateway Lodge at Zion Mountain Ranch
Kane County, Utah
Designed to reflect the drama and scale of its’ natural setting, the lodge sits at the base of a sandstone cliff on an elevated bench to capture sweeping views of the distant peaks and valley floor. To adapt to the terrain, the multi-level building is asymmetrical with varied massing and wings that step with the contours culminating in an overlook tower at the 5th level. Embracing the idea of ‘building in harmony with Nature’, indigenous buff-colored sandstone walls, battered piers and chimneys rise out of the ground to mimic the stone outcroppings and cliff wall backdrop.
On the interior, a two-story lobby with massive stone walk-through fireplace is the focal point of the hotel. Unobstructed views toward Zion National Park are celebrated through the lobby’s large plate glass windows. This harmonious blend of architectural form, rich textured materials and craft will create a lasting impression on generations of visitors.
